Jesus across Christian and Islamic tradition

This note explains why some edges around Jesus are marked **religious_contested**. ## Shared ground Both Christianity and Islam affirm **Mary (Maryam)** as the mother of Jesus (Isa), and both treat Jesus as a major figure in salvation history / prophecy. The Mary → Jesus link on this graph is therefore marked **religious** (tradition-asserted motherhood). ## Where traditions diverge **Christian traditions** generally hold that Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God, and that the New Testament genealogies (Matthew and Luke) place him in Israel's story — often with **Joseph** as legal (and, in some readings, adoptive) father. Gospel accounts also narrate crucifixion and resurrection. **Islamic tradition** venerates Jesus (Isa) as a prophet and messenger of God, born of Maryam, but **rejects** the Christian claim of divine sonship. The Qur'an also presents a different account of the crucifixion narrative than mainstream Christian doctrine.
